Arnel Pineda on his success: ‘I’ve waited for 26 years for this to happen to me’
by Rachelle Siazon

A certified Kapamilya, Arnel Pineda feels elated towards ABS-CBN’s all-out support to him and other Pinoy singing sensations. A year after he joined the American rock band Journey, the 41-year-old singer still feels overwhelmed with his success as an artist and grateful to the network for giving him a share of the spotlight as well. “Of course I am very, very honored kasi I wasn’t given this chance before. I have waited for 26 years just for this thing to happen to me and you know hindi araw-araw dumadating yung ganitong klaseng opportunity, so hindi ko na sasayangin. I think I will hold on to it the best I can hanggang lumipas ako,” he recently told ABS-CBN.com

Arnel had performed in over 60 concerts during the 2008 Journey World Tour but being able to sing in front of a Filipino crowd here in the country gives him a totally different feeling. “What I love most about performing here is the warmth and joy of the people at yung pride na ipinakikita nila sa akin kapag nakikita nila ako sa stage. I was able to make it internationally and they share their pride with me, isa ‘yon. That’s something really priceless,” he beamed. Since there’s also pressure for him to be at his best form, Arnel is determined not to let his fans down by taking care of his best asset. “Yes, it’s a very big responsibility lalo na yung expectations ng buong mundo. Kasi with Journey, yung performance ko they are always on check. Kaya I have to keep myself fit and my voice healthy para always ready sa tour,” he exclaimed.

He further shared that he would be staying in the country until Journey resumes its world tour in mid-March with a kick-off concert here in Manila. “After our concert here, we will be going to Europe first then U.S. Magkakaroon din kami ng new album. Hindi pa siya final pero we’re going to do new songs. Of course I am going to collaborate with my fellow band mates for the group’s latest compositions.” The fact that he’s now on vacation with his family would surely keep him refreshed and inspired for his busy year ahead. “Definitely. As it happens, they will also be joining me sa American tour ng Journey,” he added.

With all the blessings coming his way, Arnel claimed that there’s nothing more he can ask for this Christmas time. “Actually, wala na ako’ng mahihiling pa kasi lahat na ata ng blessings binigay na sa akin ni God and I’m very, very happy. Siguro I’ll just keep my voice healthy para mas mapaglingkuran ko pa yung bansa natin, mas mabigyan ko ng pride ang ating mga kababayan, and mas mapasaya ko pa ang pamilya ko,” he finally said.
