Tanging Ina’ tops MMFF opening day

Close this MANILA, Philippines—Star Cinema’s “Ang Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat” topped the opening day box office of the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival, official figures
show.

The sequel to the Ai-Ai delas Alas 2003 historic blockbuster netted P20.9 million on Christmas Day, the first day of the festival, in which the total gross of all entries reached P68.6 million or a 14 percent increase from opening day figures last year.

OctoArts/M-Zet/APT’s “Iskul Bukol: 20 Years After,” the grand reunion movie of the cult 1980s TV sitcom starring Tito, Vic and Joey landed second place with P18.9 million, followed by Regal Films’ horror trilogy “Shake, Rattle & Roll X,” with P13.1 million.

Regal’s other entry, “Desperadas 2,” which features an ensemble cast made P7 million, while Viva Films’ period film “Baler” earned P5.3 million. At the tailend were OctoArts Films’ sex comedy “One Night Stand” (P1.5 million), Cutting Edge Productions’ “tradigital” animation film “Dayo” (P1.2 million) and Millennium Films’ “Magkaibigan” (P600,000).
